Yes Ray, had to make some adjustment when I first got the car. That though was due to slip so, although reverse clearly selected, it barely drove. The adjustment cured that but the later problem is that nothing selects in reverse, despite pumping the pedal full stroke repeatedly, then suddenly, bang it goes in.
What is unusual compared to Daimler or Lanchester is this has no fluid coupling so 1st and reverse have to be slip engaged so they are subject to more wear. The reverse set up is not like the forward adjusters which have the cam and spring arrangement. Its not like anything I have read about so not entirely clear how to adjust it. _________________ Daimler Fifteen 1934 (now sold)

It seems you need a means of rotating the box to see if the pumps are (both?) working and if the selector mechanism is O.K. I wonder if a stationary engine would do the trick.?
They used to be cheap as chips at one time but now they are being collected I don't suppose they still are.
I suppose you could start by attaching the pedal and seeing if it does anything. Does the pedal hydraulically pressurise the oil? |
By chance the other day I came across some photos of someone conducting a crude (but seemingly effective) test on an overdrive gearbox sitting on the garage floor with nothing more sophisticated than a power drill on the input shaft and a couple of wires to a battery to energise the solenoid on the o/d. The drill wasn't a massive thing either but I guess some sort of adaptor was needed (although it wasn't visible) to mate the drill chuck to the input shaft of the gearbox - I can't see the standard chuck being large enough. |
