The costs involved putting on these larger events is collosal, add in everything going up since covid and the current economic crisis and I must say I could see other larger shows going the same way.
I do think smaller more informal gatherings and road runs are more appealing now as the costs and red tape aren't so detrimental. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I'm not too surprised by this news as it has become increasingly evident that more and more "Red Tape" is being applied to such events and organisers have had to become more commercially oriented to deal with the complexity, however this in itself detracts from the attraction as it becomes more of a money making excercise and participants, such as us who's hobby is affected, are expected to pay more to enter and jump through endless hoops to get required insurances and comply with regulation.
As said, the smaller events then become more appealing but sadly, they won't be able to sustain the sort of sideshows that help to reel in the public. Its all a viscious circle.
How much easier life used to be.
I do object to the big shows, like the NEC, where it now costs a Kings ransom, to park, entrance charge, rip off prices for a cup of tea and even the stall holders prices are more than you pay for stuff anywhere else because of the extortionate charges levied by the NEC or organisers just to stand there.
Seems nothing these days gets done without a handling charge, even if they do nothing for it. Where we will be in a few years I dread to think.
But for us with the older classics, lower end of the market where values are not like RR, Aston, etc, the impact is likely to make our cars less relevant and if we don't keep them displayed, interest wanes even more.
The FHBV need to do some strategic thinking. _________________ Daimler Fifteen 1934 (now sold)

i am involved in organizing 2 local shows and the costs this year have risen a lot, the paperwork/red tape is huge as well.
also less people willing to help out makes some shows a big strain on 1 or 2 people, all because someone may sue the show if they trip or fall over, so insurance is higher, sign of the times sadly, smaller local meets seem to be one way to keep costs down, but only car enthusiasts tend to go, not many punters turn up to see the cars so you cant make any money from it to pay any overheads.
my daughter was looking forward to the gdsf next year, it is tooo big for 1 day now. |

We very much like a day down at Dorset.
But, we have a couple other shows in the same week closer to home so we think we will give them a go next year. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |
