Now that the RAF has retired it's C130 Hercules' I wonder if the HercBird will eventually become the mid/late 21st equivalent of the late 20th Century C47 Dakota.
There must surely be enough of them stored at Davis Monthan to keep civilian fleets going for years.

They will keep flying for many more years given the number of them that are in existence I would think.

They are probably too expensive to operate by civilian operators and they may well have fatigue life limited. We had L188 Electras and the wing was a pain.

Assuming that they could have speed matched, I think they could have used the 3 Hercs alongside the CR formation today to actually Form CR III.

Now, unless they can be preserved, the Hercules will never do that.

Do you think after their active service they can be kept air worthy? I would have thought it would be fairly straightforward if the cash can be found.

(Perhaps Charles could dip into his treasure chest?

If anyone has access to get beyond the Shropshire Star's paywall, I have just seen a restricted article about a Hercules down in a field near Newport.

It seems that the article's looking back to 1999 according to the single comment below the story, the subtitle of the article refers to it happening on an August bank holiday but no mention of year ...
