I quite like the idea of fitting hand painted number plates to my 1932 Minor. The car is probably too young to have had them fitted in period, as I think they were more common before 1930, but if done properly I think they look better than the pressed aluminium type. I would use an off-white/cream paint for the letters/numbers to give it a more period look. _________________ 1989 2CV

My military Commer had hand painted number plates, fitted in 1946 when she was demobbed. I still have them, they are kept safely tucked away as I didn't want to spoil them by restoring them. I replaced them with the standard black on aluminium period plates. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Yes, hand-painted plates on your 1932 Minor would be totally authentic; this was my 1936 Austin Ruby's original plates:

I sold a 1937 Morris 8 last year, as some point it had been fitted with the "obligatory!" newish classic pressed aluminium plates, however when removed, there were some lovely hand painted numbers, still readable, the current owner intends to perform enough restoration to get them legal whilst retaining the patina. |
