Well how pathetic, and hardly in the spirit of your slogan "An amicable online meeting place"...
As a vintage car enthusiast and multiple owner I've been a member and viewer of this forum since last November. Being the founder and administrator of a very successful non-car related internet forum myself, I know only too well that a key part of any online community revolves around the discussion of items offered via the eBay market place. To edit this medium out of your site, even if postings are made by vendors themselves, is not something I believe is beneficial to your readership.
Kindest regards,
Nick |

Nick
Plenty of ebay auctions are discussed here, however when a user's first and (til then) only post is to plug their own auction sale, whether months after joining or straightaway after joining, kind of suggests that they have no interest in actively participating, other than to plug their own listing, which brings little benefit to the rest of the membership.
The amount of time this forum takes to run, including manually setting up each login, means I cannot afford to have people register simply to advertise their ebay activities. Historically a number of people have joined to do this, and never again contribute to the forum, so I decided some time ago to focus my efforts on encouraging members who wish to stick around and take part in existing topics, or else kick off their own, in the spirit of what has gone before.
This is mentioned in the New User registration posting that I provided a link to, so it shouldn't come as any surprise if a brand new user's ebay plug is moderated in this fashion.

I have agree 100% Rick.
Too many people try to pull a fast one nowadays. I would suspect fairorgan will sell his vehicle and we will never se or hear from him again. _________________ ROVER

People will often join forums just to read posts and show support of the group, not necessarily to actively contribute on a regular basis. If you look at the first 20 members on the list of this site you can see that 8 of them haven’t posted anything at all! Thus to stereotype any old user’s first posting, in this case mine being the eBay auction link, is in my opinion moderation too far.
I’m not going to waste any more of my time arguing about the minutiae of forum rules; if you’re not going to permit a link to my auction description then it’s the forum viewers who lose out.
Regards,
Nick |

Forgive me, but I really need to add my tuppence.
As an administrator of an internet forum yourself, you should be well aware of any rules & regulations & the fact that they are spelled out for any new members in the introductions section. It usually reads something like "Please read before posting" or words to that effect.
As an administrator of an internet forum, do you believe yourself to have earned certain rights to disrespect the wishes of other administrators of other forums & disregard the guidelines they have set in place?
Anyway, all that aside, I think it's just bloody rude to not even take the time to introduce yourself before posting ANYTHING.
I am reminded of a phrase...
Isn't it funny how people who look down their noses at you still expect you to see eye to eye with them...
