On May the 9th., 2009 the Gippsland Vehicle Collection arranged a commemorative run from Maffra to Dargo.
The run was to commemorate the first motor vehicle to Dargo which took place on May the 10th 1909. It was made by Doctor Haganeaur in a 1907 De Dion Bouton. With only a dirt wagon road to follow, he made the trip in 4 and a half hours actual driving time, in order to treat a patient, unfortunately now, the identity of the patient is unknown. At the time, Dargo was a very isolated spot, and there are many tales of the sick or injured taking a couple of days to be brought to Maffra or Sale for treatment. The doctor became quite a legend in the area, both for his medical skills and also for his community activities.
We had the pleasure of a very well organised rally, and the added advantage of tar sealed roads. Over 160 vehicles of all ages and many types took part, enjoying the drive on a perfect autumn day through the mountains that form part of the state's 'High Country'.
I didn't manage to photograph every car, and it will take me a while to transfer all of my pictures to a Photobucket file, however if you go to this link-
http://s310.photobucket.com/albums/kk406/roverdriver/Dargo%20Centenary%20Run/ you will see some of the pictures.
Re-visit the link over the next day or two as I get more pics posted.
Many thanks to Ian and Jan Kennedy and their helpers for a very enjoyable trip. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Dane,
What a marvellous cross section of cars. The weather looked fabulous and I bet you all had a terrific time!
Thanks for the photos.
