Thanks Rick, although it is only fair to point out that a) the place doesn't belong to me, it was just a nice photographic point, and b) that the D-type is a Lynx, not a real one!
The 3.4 Mk 1 though was one of those dream cars; I met someone at Goodwood years back and I was talking to Tony Williams of BUY 1 fame. The chap asked me if I liked the cars and said I was interested in all Jaguars. He apparently had one to sell so I toddled off to Farnborough to see it. Can you imagine my astonishment when in a brick and flint garage there stood a 1959 Mk1, one owner and 18,000 miles from new. The Dad had died six years back and the car had just stood there. After putting in fresh petrol, cleaning the points in the distributor and fuel pump, pumping up the tyres and adding a new battery we drove it home! I won't upset you by telling you the price though but suffice to say it was almost a gift. Not at all rusty, it just needed a bit of fettling. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Oh, and it towed the rig very well too. |
