Hi everyone. New here and it's only my second post. Not sure if it's appropriate but my father and I own two Paramounts, a 1955 1.5 litre convertible and a one off sports (which has a Swallow Doretti inspired style front end and paramount rear body and chassis!)
We made a website years ago which is full of pics of Paramounts, including the fist prototype and includes some current surviving cars. It is not fully up to date and has very little written info on it but it contains pretty much all the info that my father and I have collected over the years.
If you fancy having a look then here it is: http://www.history-of-the-paramount.co.uk/index.htm
Any feedback would be great and any more more info on Paramounts would be gratefully recieved. I hope to contribute properly to the forum as time goes on.
Cheers.
Rich.

Hi Rich,
Welcome to the forum. The Paramount certainly sounds like an interesting car. Looking at the Wikipedia link that John posted I was surprised at The Motor road test quote:
"A 1500 cc car tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1956 had a top speed of 72.4 mph (116.5 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 31.2 seconds. A fuel consumption of 25.6 miles per imperial gallon (11.0 L/100 km; 21.3 mpg-US) was recorded. The test car cost £1013 including taxes. [3]"
Given that it weighed about the same as the 100E Ford the performance figures look more as if they are from the 1172cc version.
The Ford Prefect weighed 15 3/4 cwt and had a top speed of 71 mph and a 0 to 60 mph of 30 seconds.
I would have thought that the Consul engined version, with at least 10 bhp more, would have performed significantly better.

Rich, some years ago, probably around 1980-1989, I think SXM belonged to a guy called John Dunning. The car was a regular attender at vintage shows around the south west/south Wales area. It very rarely had the hood up, and JD used to drive it quite spiritedly. My memory may not be 100%, but I think it was green then. There weren't many Paramounts about, even then. |

Yep, SXM 269 was green in the 80's and I remember sleeping in the portafold!! I would have been in my very early teens then.
If I remember correctly, we always camped with the stationary engine lot!
John Denning is my dad and although he doesn't do so many shows now, I'm trying to pursuade him back into it.

This is going to get confused, with two threads on the same subject!!
Yes you did camp with us engine-men, cos we made the Paramount an honourary stationary engine! |
