|
|
Hi everyone allow me to introduce myself. I’m Martyn or Minxy. I own a 1956 Hillman minx convertible.
I live near Daventry in West Northants and work in a secondary school as a tutor. My background is in the motor trade and I used to work for the Factory Audi rally team in the eighties and specialised in quattros for many years.
Really looking forward to joining in the banter. |

Welcome Minxy.
Still vividly remember seeing my first 4-wheel drive Audi rally car on a special stage in Scotland, one of the Jim Clark rallies I think it was. It caught us all unawares in a shower of stones because we were all used to rear wheel drive Escorts and their like and had positioned ourselves to miss their predictable trajectory of stones!
Happy days!
Scotty. |

Hi Martyn, what a stunning motor car, did you restore it or was it bought in that condition?. |

Thanks for the welcome.
I have owned her for five years and did some mechanical work when I got her, mainly cooling system and brakes. The paintwork was done about fifteen years ago according to the paperwork I have although the price would suggest it was just some remedial spraying. She has had only some insignificant cosmetic welding done and the interior and hood are still the original items so carry quite a bit of ‘patina’. She is in fact quite a genuine low mileage hardly used car.
Oh and don’t get me started on the quattros – i can get quite boring. |

Thinks.... Daventry, Audi works team - David Sutton perchance? Really nice guy, I road tested his quattro sport one time, scared the sh*t out of me, it was on hand cut slicks on a damp road and he p*ssed himself laughing!
BTW - nice car you have! |

Hi Minxy,
That is one beautiful MK8 Convertible, would make a great stablemate for my MK7 ute, it's a shame the to vehicles are 1/2 the world apart. I will post pic of ute at alater date.

Hello,
I have a 1956 Hillman Minx Californian. It is to receive it`s paintwork anytime now.
Pippin red roof and cream body.
And luckily I have tracked down a new old stock front bumper locally for it.
Do need a better front grill if anyone knows the whereabouts of one.!!

Hi Gresham
Like the Californian, When I purchased the soft top it was a toss-up between the two. The chap I got the convertible from had both and it was advertised as ‘one must go’ in the end I opted for the fresh air factor. Those grilles are seriously rare in reasonable condition, over the years I have seen a couple for sale and they were commanding ridiculous money for only very average units. I’m lucky the surround on mine is perfect and the uprights are only minimally pitted. |
