|
|
I'm a huge fan of classic cars but don't know much about them! However, I'm looking for someone with a 1940s car that would be able to pick up and drop off my in-laws for their 40th wedding anniversary party. They are having a small 1940s themed party and we think this would be a fantastic surprise for them.
It's on the 19th November and would be picking up the two of them at 7pm in Tarporley and dropping off at Sandiway, nr Northwich.
If you are able to do this or know someone that could please reply to this post or message me. I have had a quote of £130 from a wedding car company, but we can't afford this.
Thanks |

At £130 you should bite their arm off,
Do you have any idea how much it costs to buy a 1940 classic car let alone maintain and insure it.
Another factor is that a lot of classic car owners wouldn't take a 1940s car out on the roads at this time of the year because of salt corrosion. _________________ ROVER

Shutterbug - if I owned a suitable car and lived in the area I'd do it for free just to make their day. Sorry I'm not able to help but hope you find someone with generosity in their heart. |

I'm sorry if I've offended anyone by asking. I was hoping that someone may see it as a bit of extra money, especially if the car is already insured year round. I didn't think of the salt on the roads.
Riley - thank you, it was a very kind comment. I really hope we can sort something so we can see their surprised faces, we know they'll love it. |

Most classic car owners are NOT insured for hire and reward, whether they charge £5.00 or £130 for the task the insurance companies still regard it as hire and reward.
Should anything go wrong whilst doing this as a way of earning a bit of extra money and the passengers were hurt there would be a lawsuit which could run into many thousands of pounds.
Yes Jo Bloggs could take that chance and earn himself a few pounds and he just might be lucky enough to get away with it, but there again he may be unlucky and be rear-ended, side swiped, head on collision or simply caught with an ANPR camera, not worth it in my opinion.
Best have a look in the yellow pages and call local companies, that way if anything should go wrong, then at least your conscience is clear.
p.s.
I still think £130 is a great price _________________ ROVER

I wonder when they would take them out then if they're worried about salt on the roads in the middle of summer. _________________ 2000 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 LWB

If an RM would be acceptable I will do it.
In view of the generous donation Shutterbug is probably going to make to Leighton Hospital Stroke Unit, I wouldn't dream of asking for any money. |

I'm not sure what an RM is but if it is ok I think a donation to the unit is a brilliant idea! I am on two charity commitees so means a lot to me. |

Not wishing to reduce any charity donations, but a thought occured to me:
Is it "Hire & Reward" if your "passenger" pays for the petrol you put in the car while they are with you?
A full tank could be enough compensation for a reasonable trip! _________________ Brian

All sorted Brian. My friends, who are in the habit of supporting the Leighton Hospital Stroke Ward Patient's Fund, have asked me to do them a favour. I don't charge my friends for favours, I am happy to help. I can take friends anywhere and everywhere with no insurance problems; the problems arise when you accept payment. |

Mission accomplished. Some observations:
Shutterbug is gorgeous.
Shutterbug intends forwarding some photos. If & when they appear I will choose the most bizzarre and post it on here.
Generous cheque on its way to Leighton Hospital. |
