Wanted for 1953 Austin A40.
The interior doorhandles and window winders for 3 doors, and also the arm rests if possible.
In fact if anyone has any Somerset bits of whatever description I'll probably be interested as what I don't need now I probably will later! |

I think anything like that would come in handy in the future Rick if not too expensive as I am slowly coming round to the idea of making a decent daily driver from the old girl.
At the moment old A40's don't command a great price (unless in show condition) so I wasn't going to do much with it - but the more I look at it the more I'm impressed by how solid and rust free she is, so it must be worth spending a few quid on. |

Hi Brian, thanks for the info.
I'm actually more interested in the beige Somerset that appeared lurking behind a couple of other classics in a photo you (I think it was?) posted a few days ago.
Do you know if they are breaking it as it looked to have most of it's bits? |

Update - I have managed to source quite a few bits for my Somerset from a very helpful chap in the highlands.
I have bought new chrome trims for the front of the car and a new radiator grille, oil bath air filter, interior and exterior door handles and fittings, engine gasket set, and two boot lid hinges!
Still looking for: the correct type jack and a spare wheel, the rear arm rests that attach to the door, a period screen wash pump, a couple of round rear reflectors. |

A gentleman bought a Somerset from new and living in a quite remote area he decided to buy in stocks of spares.
When the Somerset production run ended after two years he thought he should buy up as many new parts as he could to make his car last, well it did last- in fact it outlasted the owner and so the current (second) owner bought the car and the vast array of new spares that had been stockpiled for it over the years! |

How do the following Devon bits sound?
Chassis, Suspension, steering - box, column, & wheel, rear axle, and the bonnet from a Devon van!
Same source as above.
Interested? |

The guy is an oil rig worker so won't now be back onshore until the end of the month when he will contact me.
I've sent him an email for when he gets home to let him know to ring me re: the other bits, I'll find out more then. |

Hi Del,
I've managed to get the door handles and some other bits but I'm always looking for additional stuff so let me know what you have when you dig it out.
The radiator is a good one on mine though so I don't need it thanks, it's mostly daft little bits now like panel knobs and bonnet buffer rubbers and a whole load of awkward stuff that seems to be missing! |
