Richard, if you had ever driven one you would change your mind. They were horrible and completely gutless.
As we say up here ' it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding'. _________________ Keep Torqueing,

Mini van, even better road holding than the saloon version because of the longer wheelbase.
HAd an estate and used to stick to the ground!! |

That's the attraction of them, and anyway I'm used to gutless vehicles!
They do have that "extreme rarity" value as well. I'd have one in a flash if a tidy cheap panel van came up for sale |

Would have to be a Morris J4 for me, to remind me of some of the happiest times at work that I had (and when repairs were simple)!
Pete.

Some nice vans coming up so much more character than the modern stuff. _________________ Car-Nut

Either that, or a Jowett Bradford
|
I found a Morris J Type some years ago on a farm in Cumbria, it was in a bit of a sorry state, and the farmer wanted an arm & a leg for it. Know doubt it just slowly fell to bits. Such a shame. |

E83W's, Bradfords and Commers, are to my liking.

I've had 2 VW type 2's in my time,a 66 splitscreen Kombi, and a 72 bay window Microbus. They were ideal for use with the kids, and with the seats removed a good size van.Not fast,or especially economical, but I loved them.
If space(and money)was no object,I'd have one in a flash.
If you wanted to really stand out,how about a DKW F1000L van?

They were made in Spain for several years, later being repowered by Mercedes diesel engines.Probably made longer there than they ever were in Germany!
I drove Commer PB vans in the early 70's.They were caned mercilessly, and frequently overloaded.Oddly, the early 1500 was more reliable then the later 1725 model the firm also ran.
I was never that keen on them, the gearchange in particular, being a bit "hit 'n miss".
I always liked the styling of Bedford CA and CF,but the CA seemed to roll a lot in corners.
The BMC J2 also had a following here, but I always found them a nightmare, again dodgy gearchange, and as slow as a wet weekend. |
