A mark 1 998 austin cooper with a morris mini minor 850 grill, the austin cooper grill was different!!

what does that decal saying "DISCS" signify? that this car had disc brakes?

Not that cooper 997s/998s had good braking though, the discs and calipers were smaller than those fitted to the S and non servoed, they faded really badly when they got hot with some spirited driving!

Yes you are right ref the 997cc cooper i had one to check over years ago when i was an MOT tester it was the first time i had driven a cooper and it was rubbish the brake passed but i could not lock up the front wheels no matter how hard i pushed the pedal a good servo assisted drum brake set-up on a mini with harder brake shoes would stop better than these, the only reason discs were better was they did not fade as quick as drums and recovered quicker,i will admit as the garage i worked in at the time sold Vauxhall cars the HC viva standard model with drum brakes no servo were just as bad at stopping and that was from new.
