Hi

The 'D' shaped end panels on the sills that meet the bulk head have rusted through and I've decided they need to be replaced rather than patch weld repaired . The engine bay front frame arms connect to the bulkhead at this point which makes things a little less than straight forward! This is new territory for me so any advice out there on how I best go about this would be much appreciated! For example can I just put axle / jack support at the front frame connection, cut out the old 'D' section. unbolt where the frame arm joins the 'D' and slide out the old piece and slide in the new, weld in place and revolt on the frame or is there more to this job than my rosé tinted goggles are showing me:)

Many thanks Mark

The problem is that giving advice without examining the required repair, or actually having previously carried it out, is a bit dangerous.

Particularly as it seems the front frames bolt to the area.

I had to carry out a repair to my XJ-S cabriolet where the rear radius arm meets the body.

It required careful measurements, to enable the radius arm mounting to be replaced exactly to maintain the rear wheel geometry.

I took my time and the repair worked out well. Another concern is one's welding ability. Sometimes when learning a weld can look good but fail when tested.

I recently bought a trailer and found some welds were only laying on the surface.

To improve welding skills/understanding. google migwelding forum and read the tutorials.

Regards Kels.
