Been spending lots of time on the truck lately - its fun starting to put it all back together Very Happy

Got the brake problems resolved, fitted a new exhaust and have the cab finished

See the before above and the after below...

All the dials work, all electrics working and it starts on the button - even got the heater and windscreen defrost operational with the original switches.

Should get the fenders and running boards back next week and hopefully the 600*16 crossplys as well then its off for a road test.

After that its just the pickup to rebuild - it's all painted - and the bed to decide on.

Only thing holding me back is the new bike.

Yes, black fenders and running boards with the rest green. I may even try to add the light green strip.

I may use it for a month with the old green on the cab and then take it back into the garage to strip and paint.

Would like to use it a bit before the long winter, but the appeal of restoring is strong Laughing

Smile Smile Drove the Chevy out of the garage this evening Smile Smile

Took various eager passengers round the block while listening for strange noises or watching for any smoke.

All went well, changed the oil while everything was warm and then reversed it back into the garage ready to put the pickup bed on.

Well chuffed this evening Laughing Laughing

Thanks Rick. I'll upload some picks once the bed and running boards are back on. It looks a bit bare just now.

The August MOT might slip to September but can't wait to get it on the open road.

After I put the new bed on and saw it on the road I decided I couldn't live with it half done and would have to restore the front end as well - so no MOT yet Embarassed

I've not been completely idle over the past months, have fitted the rear bed and its now ready for the rear bumper and lights.

Have spend a LONG time stripping the front end, scrubbing off 68 years of farm mud mixed with oil and then repainting. Then part stripping the engine and suspension and restoring/repairing/replacing where needed.

Before:

After:

I'm awaiting a delivery from Frost for radiator paint and high temp manifold paint and then I'll get the engine running again - hopefully - before painting the cab and front fenders etc.

Good work on the interior----i love driving on a nice bench seat,it`ll look the bizz when finished. I noticed heavy rust on the rear spring hanger--did you sand blast the chassis, cos there`s no sign of it under the paintwork.

Cheers ---Ray the Rocker...

Hi Ray,

There was a lot of surface rust mixed with mud and old oil but it all polished of with a 4" twisted wire brush fitted onto the grinder. For all the small and more intricate bits I use a 1" brush and a flexi head onto a drill. I've been amazed at how good the chassis is under the paint, you could polish it and see your face in it Laughing

It's been a lovely day here today so thought I'd get the truck out the garage and measure up and pre-fit the rear fenders and running boards. Also fitted the rear chains to the tailgate and the refurbished radiator.

Took a few pictures since it's nearing her first birthday in Scotland Smile

This is the same fender as the first picture on my first post Laughing

I showed the Chevy pics to the former owners, they were mighty impressed at your rate of progress with the truck Smile
