Hi beetlefan. I dont know where you live but just outside Airdrie near Glasgow is a fibreglass bodied beetle convertible with wide chrome wheels that has been lying for a couple of years. hood is a bit rough but repairable. They paid £3000 for it then but would like to get £1500 for it now. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Hi Clan Chieftain, I live near Heathrow Airport that Beetle sounds like a "Wizard" conversion from around the 1980's
Probably in the wrong place but I would just like to say what a brilliant forum this is! |

So is the Beetle not original then as it is a 69 on a G plate. The owner has lorries and does long distance. Maybe he could chuck it in the back for you. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

71 Marina the Beetle isn't original if it has a fibreglass body, it sounds like it was rebodied onto a 1969 floorpan, At least the F/G body should out live the body! |

Not a great deal of progress to report as yet because for the most part I have been scraping off flaky underseal, rubbing down scorched paint and wire brushing loose rust from my 2cv donor shell.
in between the dirty jobs I'm quite enjoying restoring the interior fittings ready to go back in. I may be getting a little ahead of myself here but it's nice to sometimes take a break from the heavy work and bring something to completion
Here's my 2cv Dashboard for example as it was when the car arrived
And as it is now awaiting installation at a later date. I've added a high beam indicator and a turn signal warning lamp as you can perhaps make out above from the blanking plugs none of these are standard equipment on the 2cv!
The colour is now 'Rover white', which is a sort of Old English white which will go well with the light grey of the other bits of interior trim that I'm doing.
I'm hoping to finish the car in VW Beryl green, the interior seats and door trim will be an ivory/cream colour, and whitewall tyres will complete the 'continental' look that I'm after.
Although this pic is of a Beetle it gives an idea of the type of look that I'm aiming at.

Nice period colour ON. Should look good.
You haven't also been twisting Rick's arm with his matching forum colour scheme have you?

I'm afraid not but I do rather like it.
I've chosen a period colour because I'm giving my 1986 manufactured model the look of a 1966 model known as the AZAM.
As 2cv's look 'old' anyway I thought it would be nice to make it appear to be a mid '60's car and it doesn't take much to do. The addition of a few bits of trim and a period colour works wonders, here's a genuine AZAM in the picture below...I don't know where I'll find those 'paperclip' over riders yet though!

I must admit I haven't heard of them, there are some on ebay.fr at the moment but they are set to reach silly money I think as they are unused originals. Repro' items are much better for my purpose.
I know a UK firm that supplies the alloy strip for the bonnet and so on, the paperclips would be nice to finish the effect. |

Hi ON if you now the size and diameter of those overriders you could easily do your own and get them chromed, much cheaper and since its not an original car but only the looks you want it wouldnt be a sacrilege or anything!! |
