I had a bit of a problem with the fibres that were in the concrete of the first section as they were not properly mixed in and clumps of them rose to the surface when levelling the concrete out, so I decided not to have anymore fibres. Now I am unsure if I did the correct thing or not, as when I concreted the other two sections I ran into problems, but that could have been down to the extreme heatwave we had. The surface of the centre section (with fibres) turned out reasonably smooth and for a first attempt I was happy with the finish, the second section was drying out too quick and in desperation I had to cover it with polythene whilst the surface was still wet, so some damage did occur. The final section which was 2" deeper and half a metre wider also dried out quicker than I would have liked but now to the extent of the previous section.
What this means is that I will have to hire a floor grinder once the concrete has been down for a minimum of 28 days and tidy it up

Before filling both side bays I set out the rebar and dowels

This picture clearly shows the fibres on the surface.

Second section covered to prevent drying out too quick and largest third section before the polythene went on

A week after the last batch of concrete was laid and the polythene has now been removed, the two end bays certainly do need some grinding down but this shouldn't be too big a job

For those following this thread you will remember that I had problems with drain levels and decided to have the rainwater drain above ground and build a wall to hide the pipe. Well I decided that it was time to try my hand at laying some concrete blocks and this was the final part of the garage to complete this part of the project

Today I handed my completion paperwork into Building Control so I am hoping that they will pay me a visit next week and hand me the Building Warrant.

I can't get the cars into the garage for now as the ground is a different level to the floor, so now to decide what to do with the outside

Hi

Looking good!

Have you a picture from the front outside looking in, like you have taken several times during the build, would be good to see the finished article as a whole?

Cheers

Dave

Here you go Dave, still got the yard to sort out but I'm unsure just yet what to do with it

With a little bit of thought I managed to cut some timber and make temporary ramps so that I could get the cars in the garage. There is loads of space between the cars and at the rear so I won't need to worry about squeezing into a tight space

I called Building Control today to enquire as to when I might expect to have the inspection done. The officer asked me about the electrics in the garage, enquired as to whether I managed to sort out the drains, then said that my certificate would be posted out........ I thought I wasn't hearing correctly and asked him if he was coming out to which he replied that he had seen enough the last time he visited (which was the only visit I had from him regarding the drains) therefore no need for another look.....I still don't believe it....

Ramp will be fitted in two weeks time Very Happy

Finally got the ramp fitted and working, not without a few gremlins that required to be sorted out and I have to order some limit switch brackets so not 100% finished. The good news is it does work so next job will be raising the roof space

Hi

Looks very posh, and very exciting!

Now you just have to remember you are working on a ramp, my mate has had some awful disasters on his, quite comical too, but I won't divulge! hehe

I bet you are really happy, really excited about getting a gremlin to fix on something, or are there plenty waiting to be done!

Very impressed!

Cheers

Dave
