I love discussing the so called lack of greenness of 4x4s. I listen to them rant and rage at "gas guzzling 4x4s" and how dangerous they are and how they should be banned and how they are solely responsible for the death of the planet adn then they say how they love their Audi Quattro/subaru etc and ask what I drive. The look on their face when I say " a four and a half tonne, six wheel drive truck that runs on LPG so is genuinely low emissions, a motorbike, a Honda Diesel, a 95 year old runabout and a Golf for the wife."

Global warming is a lie Save the V8, straight 6 and 4 cyl sidevalve!

I`m not too sure it`s a lie.
But I don`t think man is causing it, and I don`t think man can prevent it either.
If man can STOP global warming, perhaps he can stop earthquakes and hurricanes too.

Hi

I think global warming is real, and we can reduce omisions, but we are going about it totally wrong. If planes continue to fly all over the globe, what is an old car going to do. Also everyone is tellying us to buy a new more efficient car every year, reduce fuel consumpsion and emisions, but the emisions caused by producing these cars, well....

I don't think I should get started any further, as I want ot get ot bed sometime!

Cheers

Dave

We cannot stop using oil, economies would collapse worldwide. Where would the government find the money to fill the money troughs for MPs to wallow in?

How can they tell us to stop using fossil fuel when so many are dependent on the revenue from it.

We are being lied to, and hoodwinked. If fossil fuel disappeared tomorrow they would really have to invest in alternative technology, and not leave it to private interests, who have their own agenda.

When they can convince me that no alternative technology is being suppressed to protect the investment in oil; I may go along with it. But it ain't gonna happen.

Sorry about the rant, but it's one of my 'Hobby Horses'. Don.

I agree pigtin! One of the biggest killers of solar and wind power development over here is the big power companies (that burn coal or oil). They don`t WANT people to have free energy. There have been several small businesses open up, selling solar systems. These small companies get bought out by the big guys, then buried, never to be seen again.
Then they throw obscene amounts of money at the politicians, so they will enact legislation in their favor.
I doubt that serious efforts will be made as far as desalination of ocean water, wind or solar power, until the last drop of oil is gone, and worldwide panic ensues. THEN big government (and or business) will unveil these miraculous plans at an astronomical cost.
Maybe I`m just a cynic?

Hey, don't get me wrong I agree with all the comments on the theme that Global warming is just a politically acceptable way to hike taxes. My comment was intended to say that Crude oil is such a great raw material for so many industries (plastic, clothing, medicine etc) that we really ought not be burning it! I read a great artical in a tech mag today about a chemical way to make steam. it involves Methanol Hydrogen Peroxide and a catalyst. So don't dump your Stanleys just yet. (watch this one get bought and buried quickly)

I agree with a lot of the comments here.

Global warming IS nothing more than a way to raise taxes, and it doesnt matter which country you live in...

As far as the chemical way to make steam is concerned, its nothing new, the technology has been around since the 1930's at least, and has been used as well. Toxic emissions by the way, can be zero with it! Curiously, to use the 'older' version, is not possible...some of the chemicals used are banned under terrorist laws.... Shocked

Hi Uncle Joe! so they are trying to bury it already! thats just plain Daft. I guess you mean Hydrogen Peroxide? The stuff that compises 90% of hair bleaches and is the principal ingredient of "Oxygen based" bleaches in for example Dishwasher powder!
If we follow this approach to the extreme we will all soon be banned from carrying highly explosive liquids (like petrol) in our motor cars.
This is worth a read!
