Where do members on here buy their number plates from, please?
I dislike the pressed aluminium ones for the reason that most plates in the 1950s and 1960s were raised plastic digits by Bluemells and similar companies and not universally ali pressed ones.
Moreover, the two sets of pressed ones I have bought have faded badly and now look scruffy after only a couple of years. They were not the cheap and cheerful variety either.
I would be grateful for your opinions. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

I remember the guy at Vintage Plates said he had some NOS Bluemels blanks and letters, but in short supply and would be quite a premium due to their rarity... I really want some for the Carawagon!!
Fortunately my A40 has its original Bluemels plates with the cast aluminium letters.
I have heard a lot of good things about Framptons, but have never used them myself.
I really think a good set of period plates can make a car. Modern ones/out of plate ones just look wrong IMO. Indeed, my Series III could really do with some period reflectives with the black plastic letters... |

My old 33 singer saloon (in restoration) seems to have coach painted plates.
Does anyone know if I can just touch these up, or do I have to get silver/blacks ones? |

I agree pressed plates were next ti the bottom to sign written versions but both were very common but not on "quality" cars and range toppers of the big six _________________ Rover P2

Hi
Me and Rick were noting the other night how well things look with painted plates on them.
Cheers

I made my own numberplates using secondhand Bluemels plates and digits, stripped, restored, redundant holes filled and new ones drilled. Trouble is the parts are getting quite scarce now. |

I doubt they have all been replaced. I prefer them myself. |
