Does anyone have experience of repairing the wooden roof of an old car ?
I have a rotted frame which may provide a useable pattern but what medium do I use to cover that prior to fitting a vinyl topcover please ?

The ones that I have come across have a wire mesh, like a finer wire netting immediately above the frame, then a layer of padding material then the outer covering.

Hope that helps.

The Daimler 15's very much like that, as are Riley RMs (Uncle Alec might be able to advise on the latter)

The RMs have a pressed roof mesh made from perforated mild steel not unlike the "windows" you used to get in food safes.

Thanks to all who responded -i am familiar with RME roof -almost my first car but my dad marched me back to the dealer and demanded my deposit basck (I was 16 in 1964 !!) .
I have a 1931/2 Nash 6 seater straight eight with excellent metal but the wood is in dire condition.

There's a post with some pointers in it here:
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2454

Basically, you'd upload them to a photo sharing site such as photobucket, or flickr.com, and paste the link(s) to the photo(s) in a posting here.

rgds,
RJ

Hi

The White Wadding is still readily available, I have had lods of it, but you need to keep it safe as rodents find it irresistable.

Cheers
