Hello all,
I am now getting round to thinking about a starter motor for the Hillman. The stock starer is a Lucas M418A which is, I am sure a 6volt item. I am making this car a 12v job.
Can anyone advise me on this please, i.e. will the later M418G go straight on in its place?
Any advice would be welcome
Thanks |

You don't really need to change it. 6V starters generally work just fine on 12V - just be sure the starter & earth cables on the battery are heavy gauge. _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

6 volt starter will cope OK
The DLM has been, as far as I know, 12 Volt all it's life, 1959, it was 12 volt when I found it in 1970.
Still the original 6 Volt starter on the e93a engine.
No problems yet.

Thanks gentlemen for your help.
I have an inherent distrust of electricity - you cant see it!
I will get the old one refurbished and report back later
all the best,
