Ok I am stretching the "Show News" category a tad.......
As a school kid my favorite band was the Police... Andy Summers ( the guitarist) is 70 this year ...how old does that make me feel ? That said I was at a Morris Register meeting last weekend, and I felt quite young.
Got me thinking, are we doing enough to encourage young folk to our hobby?

I'm doing my best to make sure our 4 yr old is interested, or at least appreciates my stuff enough not to chuck it in a skip when I go.
He regularly helps out in the garage, "fixing" things, moving tools about, chopping up bits of rubber pipe in the vice with a saw. His playhouse is now officially his "workshop", and resembles a miniature version of his dad's shed - ie vehicles parked at odd angles, and precious little floorspace
On a wider note, from time to time I get school teachers asking if they can re-produce photos etc from the site in their projects, and wherever possible I try to help them out.
I think so long as youngsters are involved, there's every chance of them getting "in" to it also. One of the biggest threats to the hobby is just sitting back and letting offspring kill time watching TV, or sit gazing at a PC monitor for hours on end (hang on.... )
As an aside, I'm the youngest attendee at the local VSCC meet, a good reason if I needed one to remain a member

Maybe if organisers of classic car shows would drop the prices of family tickets then more children would take an interest. On the other hand there are a lot of entrants in shows in their 20s mainly with Escorts and Cortinas. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

My daughter is just like Rick's son, she always wants to come with me in the garage, and I often give her some tools so she can play with them whilst I'm busy doing something else.
She comes with me on sunday morning drives in my old cars and whenever we have a club event.
Lately she's been pointing any old car she sees and saying to me 'Look dad how lovely that car' !!
She's been spotting minis in particular since she was 2!!
Over here you do see young people getting interested in classics but as already described mainly in Fords or in minis mostly! |

When my daughter was about 2 she watched me do a bit of panel beating...a little later on she went out armed with a hammer heading for one of our moderns ...just about stopped her in time
