What notable motoring anniversaries occur this year?

The MGB springs to mind (1962 = 50 years), same for the Spitfire, and the A40 Somerset celebrates 60 years this year also.

SS Cars / Jaguar Cars celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the company and 80th Anniversary of the introduction of the SSI this year.

Morris 1100 from August 1962 and I believe the Vanden Plas 1100 followed before the end of the year.
The Austin version was not sold until 1963 apparently.

If my memory is correct, the first one in this area was bought by a retired Headmaster. It was dark green and caused quite a stir at the time - September or October of 1962.

Well, if this is the Smoke & Water section, March 31st is the 150th anniversary of the opening of the GWR broad-gauge branch line from Taunton to Watchet, Somerset. Later extended to Minehead and now the West Somerset Railway.

See www.wsr.org.uk

But Rick did say "motoring", not "engine" !

The Rover 3 Litre Coupe was launched for the Mk2 P5 range.

This despite being a 4 door coupe which is not technically correct and less rear headroom had an image that made it outsell the the more staid but idendical performance saloons

I first took out the memsahib 50 years ago after having my P2 pulled out of a snow drift.
