My car has been brush painted at some point and i want to remove it to reveal the original paintwork underneath,how would i be best to go about it ?I thought about paint stripper but don't want to damage the original paint if i can help it.

Paint stripper will only soften the paint which will have to be scraped off.
The brush painted surface that you are starting from will be somewhat variable in thickness so most unlikely to soften evenly.
There is very little chance that you will get back to a useable surface.
If it's been painted with houshold paint you will have to fully remove it if the intention is to spray the car. I do a lot of both spraying and coachpainting on my own cars so can give a few tips in required.

The only chance of getting back to the original paint would be to sand it, start with a 400 grit and see how you get on, if it really thick maybe use a 240, as the original paint appears go to an 800.

I agree with the previous post , you will be very lucky to get a usable finish.

Even if you could get back to the original paint, what would it have been like before it was brush painted? Nobody is likely to bother brushing over original paint of even a vaguely acceptable finish...
