In common with other forum members, I suspect, I have a large number of old VHS cassettes and I am in the process of transferring the more interesting programmes from the past onto DVD.
I found one old Agfa VHS cassette this weekend with a recording of the TV detective Hazel on it - this must have been recorded in the early 1980s - showing his green N registered Triumph Stag and I thought it might be interesting for you to test your memories on cars from past TV series.
I will claim one of the more obscure ones here for starters, this being the BBC series Adam Adamant from 1966, with Gerald Harper in the lead role if I recall correctly and the black or certainly dark coloured Mini Coopers S (b&w those days!) that he drove in the series .
And now over to you all. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

| I always have liked Inspector Morse's Jaguar MK2. Also like some of the classic vehicles in Heartbeat which they repeating on ITV3. |

Don't forget Nurse Gladys' white Moggie Minor!
Or the cars of Frank Spencer in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, which included a 2CV and an Austin Devon.

Pug 607 1st episode
Interceptor MkII rest of first series
then
Bristol 410
This was despite driving a Bemtley according to Elizabeth George's books.

Frank Spencer had a pale blue Morris Minor as well, that got stuck on the edge of a cliff.
Morris 8 Series E in The Plank (Graham Sykes and Tommy Cooper).
Loads of interesting stuff in Foyles War & Heartbeat.
MK2 Consul in Carry on Camping.
A35 van in Carry on Constable.
Chrysler Avenger (The Crimson Avenger!) driven by Richard Wilson in the first episode of One Foot in the Grave (Alive and Buried).
You can't forget things like The Sweeney, Z Cars, Minder, etc either! _________________ 1952 Austin A90 Atlantic

Steed's modified XJC 5.3 in The Avengers sticks in my mind as being quite impressive. Later series featured an early XJS.
Anyone remember Lovejoy, and his Volvo estate - 245 or 265 maybe?

With US-spec twin round headlamps, if I remember correctly. I'm not sure how I know that, as I didn't watch it (ITV wasn't really "done" at our house)

245 I think, then a Minor convertible. Talking of Volvo estates, Jerry and Margo in The Good Life had one.
Lots of people drive different stuff on TV than in the books, though - I seem to recall reading that Inspector Morse has a Lancia in the books, not a Jaguar.
Randall and Hopkirk had an FD Victor estate.
Spender (Jimmy Nail) had a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth for some time. And Carter (in the Sweeney) had a HB Viva for a bit as well. One recent spectacle on an old edition of The Sweeney was the piece with the guy who played a gangster in Eastenders (forget which one, a few years ago) driving a 1300 Marina in a car chase. And another one shown a couple of weeks ago with Regan in a black Wolseley Princess. |

Two more have just come to mind :
1. Basil Fawlty's Austin/Morris 1100 estate in Fawlty Tours - the one he gave "a damn good thrashing".
2. Emma Peel's Lotus Elan from the 1960s Avengers.
Lets include old films as well. An obscure one would be James Bond's Aston Martin DBS from On Her Majesty's Secret Service, then played by the Australian George Lazenby on the one and only occasion. Diana Rigg played the lead female role. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

That's right! I'd forgotten about Butterflies and the chauffeur driven Mark Two Ford Granada belonging to Wendy Craig's platonic suitor. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Thora Hird had a Herald convertible in Last Of The Summer Wine, while the mechanic fella had a Landy.
A smart jet black 900 Turbo regularly appeared in The Paradise Club.
Lady Penelope's pink Rolls-Royce was quite an eye-catcher, as was the Pink Panther car that featured in the closing credits of the cartoon.

Corporal Jones' Bedford lorry was a regular in Dad's Army, while Roland Rat on Channel 4 had a lurid-coloured 100E Ford I think.
Who remembers The Gaffer's clapped-out Rover P6? (I just looked up a reference to Bill Maynard, I never realised he was once married to Donald Campbell's widow, Tonia Bern).

I have often wondered how many 1960s S Type Jaguars were destroyed in The Sweeney.
Does anybody remember the fabulously driven Jaguar Mark 2 in the film Robbery? _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Hi
Dads Army, featured 1930 Wallis & Steevens 6-ton Advance Road Roller No.8034 rolling over all the Crew tents, the roller survives to today, and is now called Wentworth.
Cheers
