Last year, getting older and with slower reactions, I decided to have the D-type converted to an XKSS. We started with this:-
After some time finding parts, we were ready to convert. I am lucky that the bumpers were a spare set from the McQueen car, and the windscreen frame and Dzus were sitting on a shelf in the Midlands since 30 years back, so the parts cost wasn't as dear as I had originally though. Anyway, she's ready for the Le Mans Clssic here and now looks like this:-
With the luxuries of a hood, luggage rack and wipers I hope to get far more use out of her than I have been doing for the last couple of years. |

Strangely, nowhere near in some areas as I thought, and bigger in others. Taking the headrest and fin off was a doddle:-
The biggest work was around the B pillar and - I had no idea - the doors on an XKSS are completely differnet to a D-type, so new ones had to be made.
It was fiddly fitting the bumpers and the screen surround, but for the rest was pretty straightforward. Trimming and painting of course cost a fair bit though. |

At first I was sad at the lodd of the headrest and fin... but after a couple of minutes looking at the result, I can appreciate what you did to make her a more usable classic.
Stunning, I'm truly jealous! _________________ www.hepcatclassics.com - for classic car artworks |
