The art department certainly got their money's worth out of that image, showing it in various locations and with tweaks to chrome strips, bonnet stretching and reversals of the image. (Original photo on the right.)

Pity it didn't work Rick - in fact some could argue it increased the rust by trapping moisture. _________________ Jonathan Butler

Somehow I feel the image has more to do with ability to stop in slippy conditions (or not) than longevity of the frame.

Some from 1956..
Not really an advert but may be of interest:
and from the same magazine but at half the price of the DS.

I pulled this out at random, but I have 30 years of Autocar and 20 of Motor Sport so plenty of scope. Sadly, the earliest Autocars are in binders and the owner took off the covers to decorate his bedroom wall.
And here's one of a car I never knew existed;-

Yes I had a Renault 8 in 1970-1 Rick - 1180 AW of blessed memory. Discs all round etc looked like a loaf of bread went like stink when I fitted 1150cc bored out liners and pistons in the 956cc engine. Could end stop the speedo! Had a wonderful solo camping trip across Germany etc in it but eventually dropped a valve between Shrewsbury and Welshpool. Still got me to destination with most of rad water in sump via head and piston.
Fixed up and eventully written off by a (speeding?) local farmers wife while parked. _________________ Jonathan Butler

Never had one but remember a one owner one residing close to my mum, it was always garaged and immaculate, I think it got sold in the late 90s for peanuts and I saw it some years later very deteriorated and looking decidedly shabby!!
A waste of a very good and original car if it got scrapped eventually!! |
