Now it would appear that I've found out who bought some of the vehicles I was looking at!
Nice to see they made it to this part of the country! |

Nothing new under the sun. About 1907 Columbia experimented with power assisted steering that comprised of an electric motor and a belt drive to the steering. They used it on their heavy trucks, but without much success |

just a little update the 16hp starter motor has packed up so took it to my local garage to be rebuilt it turned out the over heating was caused by the water pump which has now been rebuilt i think a lack of use by previous owners is the main problem
when i got to the garage i found this parked up awaiting recommisioning it is a 1955 saphire 236
i wonder when 2 armstrongs were last in the same garage at the same time my saphire 346 is being preped for respray and replacment n/s/f wing

Nice photo's Richard, do you mind if I join you? I've just managed to acquire a 1959 Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire in Ivory over Maroon. She could do with a little TLC, and I have some little niggles to sort out but I'm very pleased with her so far.

Fascinating thread, I love those 50s Siddeleys. Wonderful cars and so evocative of that era. |

Hi Richard, I couldn't let you go buying every single Armstrong Siddeley out there, could I?
Like the Pilot, I found this one quite by chance and was in a position to move on it quickly (for a change)......
Are you sticking with the same colour scheme for your Sapphire, or are you going to do something else?

hi Gavin i did think about going two tone but decided to keep the saphire the same colour due to the cost of paint and also easier for the sprayer i am on the lookout for a hurricane now and also a front bumper for the 346 so if anyone reading this has either please let me know |

Saphire 346 update
Although solid underneath it was found that there were lots of small areas of rust starting to show around the edges the worst being the rear valence and a small hole in the boot also passenger side b post so cut out and welded up and a good job is being done
a sample of paint has been sent for matching and hopefully will be back on road very soon update to follow as and when |
