Plans are advancing for this year's pair of events, the latest news from the event promoters:

---------------------

CARFEST 2: THE SEQUELS

• Full live music and supercar line-ups now confirmed
• Additional day tickets available for both events
• Chris Evans broadcasting live from both events: “I can’t wait!”
• Raising further funds for BBC Children in Need
• Media accreditation details confirmed

There are now less than seven weeks to count down until the eagerly anticipated CarFest season is upon us. And, with full details of the 2013 line-up now being announced, a limited number of extra day tickets have just gone on sale for those who missed out when the original allocation sold out within hours back in January.

Cleverly conceived and energetically hosted by BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, CarFest sets out to be the ultimate family-friendly festival. It combines breath-taking action displays from the world’s finest road and race cars with great live music performances from top bands, all wrapped up in a mouth-watering selection of fabulous food. Ladle in a host of other fantastic arena shows and scintillating attractions chosen specifically to guarantee lots of fun and games for all ages and its easy to see why last year’s two events received such rave reviews and simultaneously raised a staggering £968,735 for BBC Children in Need.

While sticking to the double-header format – CarFest North is now located at the Oulton Park Race Circuit in Cheshire (2-4 August) and CarFest South at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire (23-25 August) – the two mega events build on last year’s sell-out successes with an even more exciting array of cars, bands, food stalls and genuine fun for all the family.

Both CarFests are now full three-day shows with flat-out action from mid-day on Friday plus a full live music line-up on Friday evening headlined by chart-toppers Texas at both venues. This year for the first time Evans will be broadcasting live shows on BBC Radio 2 between 10.00 and 13.00 on Saturday from both CarFests and the extended hours on Sunday will only add to the non-stop, yet beautifully relaxed and super friendly, party atmosphere.

As well as putting the spotlight on many of the incredible cars from the DJ’s own private collection, the dramatic Sprint on track will feature a truly stunning collection of cars from past and present generations. Highlights this year include special Aston Martin and Lamborghini ‘sevens’ to mark important milestones in both coveted companies’ histories – all cars run in batches of seven in deference to Evans’ own ‘Magnificent Seven Ferraris’ as featured on his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. CarFest North will also include bikes for the very first time while Jody Scheckter – the 1979 F1 World Champion and owner of Laverstoke Park Farm – is promising some special surprises at CarFest South.

This year’s music line-up is equally impressive with top live performers such as Keane, Jamie Cullum, Jools Holland, Ocean Colour Scene, Amy Macdonald, The Feeling, Alfie Boe, Reef and Scouting for Girls joining Texas on the star-studded bill. To ensure everyone has enough energy to dance the nights away, a vast choice of handpicked caterers will be serving up fare for all tastes and dietary requirements.

Talking of grub, the Britain’s Best Pavilion will house the very finest food and drink produce that Britain has to offer – giving small producers deserving of a national platform the chance to promote their breads, cheeses, meats, biscuits, jams, juices and so much more.

The much-loved Cakes versus Pies competition is hosted in the Pavilion, too, with a panel of professionals judging the preliminary rounds before Evans and his group of experts – including celebrity baker Paul Hollywood and renowned food writer Marry Berry at CarFest South – declare the winners on the main stage on Sunday.

Ensuring there’s always something for everyone in the family to do, a feast of different side shows and activities abound, ranging from a silent disco to kids driving schools, dancing diggers to medieval jousting, car club displays to an epic Vulcan bomber flypast not to mention a skyful of equally dramatic air displays. In other words there’s never a dull moment at CarFest whatever their age and whatever their interests.

Being Chris Evans’ dream of the perfect family festival, it’s no surprise that he’s excited at the prospect of two more great shows this summer. He said: "CarFest last year was brilliant – kids, mums, dads, grandparents all had a fabulous time. It's like a huge village fete where everyone can have masses of fun together. I can't wait to do it all again."

With full details of the 2013 line-up now confirmed, a limited number of additional day tickets for both CarFest North and CarFest South are available via the official Carfest website, keep up to date at www.carfest.org .

More news regarding CarFest South arrived today, the P34 being demonstrated would be something to see IMHO

--------------------------

SCHECKTER RECREATES HISTORY AT CARFEST

• 1979 World Champion reunited with radical six-wheeler F1 car
• “It will bring back some wonderful memories,” says Scheckter
• CarFest South returns to Laverstoke Park Farm in August

Motor sport history will be made at CarFest South at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire (23-25 August) when Jody Scheckter drives the history making six-wheeled Tyrrell for the first time in nearly 40 years.

It was back in 1976 that the Tyrrell team introduced the most revolutionary car ever seen in Formula One, the ground breaking Tyrrell P34. The radical car featured not two conventional, but four much smaller front wheels designed to give additional grip and downforce – a concept since outlawed by the F1 rule makers. Two cars were built for the team’s drivers Jody Scheckter and Patrick Depailler to race in that year’s FIA Formula One World Championship.

The P34’s golden moment came at the Swedish Grand Prix staged at the Anderstorp circuit in June where Scheckter took pole position and then made history by becoming the only driver ever to win a Grand Prix in a six-wheeled car. Although that was the only win, in total Scheckter scored no fewer than ten top six finishes in the car from just 12 starts.

Over recent years, Scheckter has been busy collecting many of the most significant cars from his distinguished racing career including the Ferrari 312T4 in which he won the 1979 Formula One World Championship title. Recently he has added the extraordinary Tyrrell P34 to his collection – a car he will drive for the very first time in nearly four decades when CarFest South returns to his Laverstoke Park Farm in late August.

"It was a very special car, despite the fact that I was not a fan of the theory behind the design,” admits an expectant Scheckter. “The Tyrrell fascinates a lot of people – it is legendary. Although it did not perform as well as the engineers expected, I came third in the World Championships that year, so it really was part of my journey to the top of F1. The last time I drove it was in 1976, so it will certainly bring back some wonderful memories when I drive it at CarFest".

It will be a doubly special weekend for Scheckter as he will not only take a trip down memory lane thrilling capacity crowds in his newly acquired P34 but also delight in hosting CarFest South which takes place quite literally in his own back yard as Laverstoke Park is the organic/biodynamic farm he established in Hampshire.

The three-day event – hosted by BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans and raising funds for BBC Children in Need – features an amazing line-up of the world’s finest road and racing cars as well as a mouth-watering selection of fabulous festival food, great family entertainment for all ages plus live music from top bands including Texas, Keane, Ocean Colour Scene, Jools Holland and Amy Macdonald. Moreover BBC Radio 2 will be broadcasting live from Laverstoke Park on Saturday from 10:00-13:00.

With so much on offer, it’s no surprise that tickets for CarFest South have completely sold out. A limited number of Friday tickets, however, are still available for CarFest North being held at Oulton Park, Cheshire on 2-4 August.

The talk of tickets intrigues me, although last years events were sold out within minutes of being announced, I was able to buy a ticket on the door. I am undecided whether to do anything about this, I felt the ticket was unduly expensive last year compared to CPoP.

If only we knew someone with a large van or similar vehicle, especially a classic one so it didn't stand out, we could park it near the walls outside Oulton and sit on top of it to see the track action.

More information on Carfest (N)....

-----------------

THE CARS ARE THE STARS AT CARFEST NORTH

• Ferrari 250 GTO and Jaguar XJ13 top glittering line-up
• Chris Evans’ Magnificent Seven in action
• Special tributes to Aston Martin and Lamborghini

Many of the world’s finest and most valuable cars will be wowing sell-out crowds at next month’s CarFest North staged at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire (2-4 August).

The brainchild of BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans, CarFest serves up a mouth-watering cocktail of great live music, fabulous festival food, brilliant family entertainment and a dramatic on-track Sprint showcasing a stunning selection of supercars – all raising funds for BBC Children in Need.

Evans himself in his ‘Magnificent Seven’ parade of fabulous Ferraris tops the exciting Sprint line-up at Oulton Park. It’s another of Maranello’s masterpieces that is likely steal the show, however, as Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason is bringing his glorious Ferrari 250 GTO to the party.

Created in 1962 as the ultimate road racer, the wonderful 250 GTO is hailed by most petrolheads to be greatest of all Ferraris. Only 39 were built and today they change hands for more than £20m.

In the face of so much glittering Italian exotica, Jaguar Heritage is proudly flying the Union Flag. It is bringing an amazing collection of historic Jaguar racing cars to CarFest North starring the unique XJ13. Built in 1966 as a potential Le Mans contender, the mid-engined XJ13 remains unquestionably one of the most desirable and beautiful racing cars of all time.

There’s a notable Jaguar going under the hammer at CarFest North, too. Last year Silverstone Auctions raised more than £90,000 for BBC Children in Need via special charity sales staged at both CarFests. That figure could be topped in 2013 as one generous vendor has donated a very special Jaguar E-type V12 Roadster to the Pride & Joy auction at Oulton Park with all the proceeds – estimated at between £40,000 and £60,000 – going to BBC Children in Need.

The French are out in force, too, with a remarkable collection of rarely seen racing and rallying Matras including both Le Mans and Grand Prix winners all revving up for action at Oulton Park. There’s a further treat for F1 fans with James Hunt’s red and white McLaren M23 and Mario Andretti’s black and gold Lotus 77 performing in the Sprint. Both date back to the dramatic and controversial 1976 season as soon to featured in Ron Howard’s eagerly-anticipated Rush movie. The Hunt car is of notable interest as it’s the chassis he raced to wins in Spain and Germany as well as in the British Grand Prix before being disqualified following protests from arch-rival Ferrari.

Other notable highlights are dazzling parades of both Aston Martins and Lamborghinis to mark important milestones in their respective automotive histories plus, for the first time at a CarFest, the addition of some very special motor bikes.

As if the magical sights and sounds of so much show-stopping machinery aren’t enough, the festival atmosphere will continue after the dust settles on the Sprint. The music of V8 and V12 engines will be replaced by live sets from a host of top bands including Jamie Cullum, Ocean Colour Scene, The Feeling, Deacon Blue, Alfie Boe, Reef and Scouting for Girls. BBC Radio 2 also will be broadcasting live from Outlon Park from 10:00-13:00 on Saturday.

Friday evening’s performance is headed by Texas supported by The Magic Numbers and, though the weekend is a complete sell-out, some extra tickets are now available for the Friday. Gates open at mid-day with the non-stop entertainment commencing shortly afterwards at 12:30.

Looks quite busy - I went and loitered outside this afternoon for a bit in case anything decent came past.

In case anyone wants to park nearby, I read elsewhere that the Vulcan display is tomorrow at around 1pm.

We attended on the Saturday (only), primarily to catch the Vulcan in addition to the usual attractions. For only its second year of running - the first to be held at Oulton Park - CarFest has a huge following, and the main display areas were soon busy. The idea of opening up the pit wall to the general public during certain trackside displays certainly seemed popular.

There were plenty of non-car-related activities going on throughout the day, here are some of the attractions that perhaps are most relevant and of (hopeful) interest to this parish Smile

By all accounts CarFest South proved to be as popular as CF North, did anyone here go? Post-event PR here:

-----

CARFEST SOUTH IS ‘THE BEST YET’
------------------------------------------------------------
• Chris Evans hails the success of his latest fun-filled festival
• Dramatic displays from stunning supercars
• Texas, Keane and Jools Holland top the live music bill
• More than a million pounds raised for BBC Children in Need
------------------------------------------------------------

**
------------------------------------------------------------
The music of Jools Holland brought the curtain down on CarFest South after three fun-filled days of truly memorable family entertainment – all raising funds for BBC Children in Need.
Staged at Laverstoke Park Farm near Basingstoke in Hampshire and hosted by BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Chris Evans, the latest CarFest has been hailed as the ‘best yet’.

“We laughed, we laughed and we laughed again. CarFest South has been a fantastic blast and the best so far,” said a delighted, if exhausted, Evans. “Somehow this has topped the huge success of last year. We’ve had even more fun and raised even more money. Let’s do it again!”
Last year’s inaugural two CarFests in 2012 raised an impressive £968,735 for BBC Children in Need and this summer’s pair of enlarged festivals have already generated more than a further million pounds for the charity.

Following the huge success of CarFest North staged at Oulton Park in Cheshire earlier this month, CarFest South again served up a feast of fabulous cars, sumptuous food and stirring live music performances played to sell out crowds numbering close to 60,000 over three days of epic entertainment.

This year’s lengthened hillclimb course hosted dramatic demonstration runs by a stunning selection of cars ranging from a whacky motorised garden shed to F1 cars driven by former world champion and Laverstoke owner Jody Scheckter. These included his historic six-wheeled Tyrrell as well as his title-winning Ferrari.

Not to be outshone, Evans also starred on the hill driving some of his own ‘Magnificent Seven’ Ferraris as well as film icon Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Other highlights included some crowd-pleasing runs from rally cars, plus a special parade of 100 past and present Aston Martin models celebrating the illustrious company’s centenary in 2013.

Waving the Union Flag away from the busy car paddock, the ‘Britain’s Best Pavilion’ was another hugely popular attraction giving some of this country’s best small producers a chance to promote and sell their jams, juices, breads, sweets, meats and much, much more.

The large marquee also hosted the ‘Cakes versus Pies’ competition with TV chefs Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry present to judge the finals. The top prize was eventually won by Alison McGurk from near St Albans for her Lemon and Passionfruit Crunch Cake. She was awarded her prize on the main music stage on Sunday evening – a stage which also saw some superb live music performances from top bands including Texas, Keane, Alfie Boe and Amy Macdonald plus a surprise guest appearance from Seasick Steve. The American blues legend was a last minute guest having appeared on Evans’ BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Friday morning. He not only wowed the audience with his music but also drove several of Evans’ stunning Ferraris.

“This is the best festival I’ve ever been to,” said the man who has headlined at Glastonbury and a host of other festivals right around the world. “I think I’ve died and gone to heaven!” he joked.

Other famous faces spotted lapping up the alluring atmosphere at Laverstoke included television chef James Martin, triple F1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart and double Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell.

Between roaring up the hill and enthusiastically introducing all the acts on stage, Evans also found time to front two live BBC broadcasts over the weekend. On Friday evening The One Show was broadcast from Laverstoke and that was followed by a special three-hour BBC Radio 2 Show on Saturday morning.

Adding to the amazing attraction was a multitude of other non-stop entertainment aimed at keeping all ages amused. These ranged from spectacular air displays from the RAF Red Arrows, the soul-stirring Vulcan bomber and a host of different stunt planes to highly enjoyable arena shows from jousters, the world famous Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team and the JCB ‘Dancing Diggers’.

With so much to see and do, CarFest is now firmly established as one of the summer’s most friendly and fun festivals.
