Mystery Over -
turns out the guy had drilled the stem out, used a BA bolt for the stem
Not only did he glue the bolt/stem into the base plate, but also
used a Piece of metal, like the metal you get with a car radio, to mount
It under the dash, long thin with holes in, and two washers.
It was touching the metal counter weights and the whole thing was
earthing out
So, a new base plate has been fitted, and all is hunky dorey..
shame as it looked perfect, could have removed the metalwork he had fitted
but everything is new, so another bodge has been fixed...
the van can be seen on https://www.facebook.com/groups/morrisz/?ref=bookmarks
Here is my Z, Along side my '58 escort 100e which I recently sold (last year)
tThis was 2005 at the miinature railwayshow in Eastbourne....
