Malcolm Campbell's mid 30s Bluebird is on loan from its American owner to the museum for a month or two.
The exhaust stubs were chromed on the outside! It seemed like a nasty non-original piece of bling to my eyes. In fact, I'm not sure the stubs should project beyond the fairing.

Seems to be the same shade as Donald Campbell's just visible to the right.

Mine was just taken with a phone camera so colour temperature may not be exact.

For the last 8 years I've taken my mate Wayne's latest ash frames down for him to both Spring and Autumn jumbles.
I like to visit Netley too at Cadnam way in Autumn one.
My old Sherpa 1986 is generally the ideal vehicle to take a good selection of stuff down on the Friday morning, selers only, go home in eve and return to bring back any(?) unsold items on the Sunday following.
Some very strange rules and regs that no one can give an explanation of give some misery at times.
My wife decided that she'd like to come along last Spring one, I paid for and printed off her ticket from the 'net, £8.50. Fair enough.
We drove into the seller's entrance on the Sunday morning but no one could explain why exactly she could NOT accompany me through the gate there, she must use the buyer's entrance only!
Whereas, I was not allowed to drive through the buyer's entrance with a seller's loaded vehicle and pass!
But they eventually relented when I pointed out the sheer stupidity of their "buyers and sellers must not mix"! "But we're married!" said I, desperately trying to show through humour the idiocy of it all.
They finally let us through another entrance lower down that went straight to the turnstiles whereupon I was instruced to quickly let her off, preferably without stopping!!!
Last year I lost my van keys, but staff as a solid throng refused to announce it upon the tannoy, stating that that was for "emergencies only"!!!
If that wasn't an emergency a few hours from Sunday evening finish, I don't know what was? _________________ regards, David. |

I didn't realise the cars were darker than the boats (1960 photo of K7 at Beaulieu)

Hi
K7 is of course a rebuild, this is the boat in which Sir Donald died, so maybe the rebuild team have been unable to get the original shade; or possibly they matched to the paint left on the hull when it was recovered and the years underwater faded it.
Alternatively the car may have been repainted while in the museum. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

It could be my memory playing tricks on me. When I went to the Lake District about twenty years ago I saw the Campbell Collection in the Lakeside Motor Museum. One of the exhibits was a road car belonging to Sir Malcolm Campbell which I thought was a paler shade of blue than the record breaking cars shown above. I can't find my photos to check. |
