Hello, I'm new to this forum.
I am about to start restoring a beautiful 1934 Austin 10/4 Colwyn. It does need to be taken back to chassis and repaired due to some rust etc but is complete as far as I can tell. It has not been run since 66. I will post some pics as soon as I have worked out how to do it.
Any useful information would be helpful and any books titles etc that anyone has used that they think may help would be appreciated.
Many thanks. |

There is a compendium of Austin 10 tech articles that you can buy from ATDC, which is useful. You can often find copies of the Book of the Austin 10 by Staton Abbey on Ebay or Amazon from time to time. This is probably the same book under a slightly different cover as the one noted above by Rick and it covers most of the range of 10's in reasonable detail and is worth getting a copy. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

Hi, here are some photos of Edward.
First registered may 1934. I was told it was a Colwyn. They were produced in 34 before the radiator cowl was changed to body colour in 35 so its possible but I would like confirmation if anyone knows. Cheers

Ian, the first Tens with the chrome radiator didn't have a geographical name but were just called the Ten-four. I think the four refers to the four side windows rather than number of cylinders. So yours is a 10/4 Cabriolet.
Take care if you're planning to remove the body to get at the chassis. First make sure to get the sills and scuttle sorted as best you can because there's not a lot holding the body together once off the chassis. |

You may have some wood framing in that as well. Follow the above link to the ATDC website for a concise history of the various models. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

There's quite a lot lf wood in these cars. The main sides of the roof are huge chunks, there's lots of bits at the sides and rear, the doors have it for support and there's some in the door pillars and a plywood floor. Even the hood has quite a lot of timber in it.
You will be able to leave most of it alone as it will look tatty and full, of rusty pins and screws but mostly it will be sound.
My advice is proceed with the intention.of replacing as little as possible. |

Hi
What are the chrome fittings at the top of the rear panel either side of the spare wheel?
I can't see the wheel and panel being able to open from either top or bottom so surely they aren't hinges or catches. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.
