Not as bleak as the earth-savers would have us believe.
Seeing as oil is used to make our society what it is, and what it likes.
Don't get depressed by the naysayers....I fancy it's 'electric' that will be the 'first' to go?```````````````````````

Looking good for an old'n. I put some air in the tyres and took her for a short spin.
Goes like the wind. 
...and yes the engine number is original to the car! (as is all the drive train.)  |

Thank you for your appreciation, Peter.
Not everyone realises that it isn't always the spit and polish that some of our cars are about. I realised when I found 'Trundles' in 1984 that this kind of originality needed to be preserved.
What I hadn't realised was that the car had been standing in the open for 5 years and other A7 enthusiasts had tried to buy it... but the owner, Mr Baxter, had refused to sell for a "give way" price. I asked him what figure he would sell for on the understanding that I would not haggle. He suggested £2,500 and I shook his hand.

I have a feeling they already had the answer with LPG and have thrown the baby out with the bathwater (so to speak.) I converted my P38 to LPG some 10 years ago at a cost of £2K. All went well for a while but the fuel is now unobtainable in my area. |

I an still get LPG[if I needed it] at my local fuel station, a mile down[or up?] the road....
Made me wonder whether it would be 'worth my while' getting one of those Dacia Sanderos, which are 'dual fuel?'
Mind, they had to junk the spare wheel, on account of the LPG tank being located in the spare wheel well.

Hydrogen is the next fuel for vehicles according to some "experts".

Yes, the spare wheel has to be sacrificed but I have a can of squirt stuff that is supposed to be able to pump up the flat tyre. So far, I have not needed it.
The place that did the conversion has now closed down and the gas pump has gone with them. Such a shame as they were top notch mechanics.  |

When I ran a car on LPG, around 20 years ago, there were numerous places local to me (south Cheshire) to get LPG, now that Morrisons have stopped selling it as have the local Shell stations, the nearest is a caravan centre that's around a 40 mile round trip and its 89p a litre! Diesel is around £1.32 a litre locally with the MPG/L difference I can see why LPG is not as attractive as it was a few years ago.
Shame because 20 years ago I saved a fortune! I did around 150,000 miles using LPG in an Omega, a good chunk of which was on company business, and 20 years ago my company didn't have a different mileage rate for LPG, so I was paid the Petrol rate

Ray; your mention of a garage doing gas conversions reminded me of one on the Long Causeway between Burnley and Hebden Bridge. The gas signs have gone and so has the Mulliner bodied Bedford single decker that used to be there.
However they now have this: https://goo.gl/maps/GGVKTyLWZbZBETk29 does anybody have an opinion as to whether it is a converted bus body or van body?
If you scan round to the left there is also a chassis outside the workshop.
