I don't know why I couldn't add text with the pictures (bit of a forum novice); but here's the story:
This was my first caravan restoration. I was 18 at the time and managed to buy the caravan for just £60. I bought her on 1st August and she was finished by 1st March. It took a lot of work and sadly there was little left of the original interior. The new interior actually came from a written off immaculate 1967 Sprite Major, so all real Sprite stuff. The upholstery/curtains/flooring were all new old stock.
She needed two excessive damp repairs to the rear corner and roof. The previous owner stupidly painted the caravan inside with emulsion, which went mouldy after one winter. This all had to be stripped off.
I gave the Alpine a thorough restoration, which included sourcing lots of old 1960's fittings. Sadly the gas pipes to the gas lamps were long gone (as were the lamps) so I bought two Morco ones and converted them to run from a 12v leisure battery.
She's a fantastic little caravan, given a very 1960's retro theme. Gets lots of attention and people come for a look as they remember their Sprite caravans from years ago. This was the start of the Sprite obsession I think... |

There is one of those in a breakers yard down the road from my house. very complete and would make a great resto for some1 with patience!
The original owner of my Singer used it to tow an alpine.

Thank you
The upholstery was a really lucky find - bought a whole roll of it from a market. But the curtains were original 1960's ones that were taken down from someone's house and re-cut to fit the caravan. The flooring was quite funny; the salesman asked me what on earth I'd want crazy flooring like that for - a utility room? kitchen? Nope, I said, just a 50 year old caravan! |
