Hi all,
An Aussie here. I'll be in Portsmouth for work next week and the following one, so I'll have the weekend free. I'm thinking obviously a day at Beaulieu, but is there anywhere else nearby I should consider as well? Is one day enough at Beaulieu?

Cheers,
Paul.

Beaulieu is a good day out, a lovely museum and nice grounds too. A day should be ok.

Hi Paul,

Motoring wise:

Beaulieu is well worth a day out, and nearby:

Non motoring wise this is great via the little ferry from Keyhaven:

and of course in Portsmouth:

Hi
If you are into nautical matters go to Bucklers Hard downstream on the Western side of Beaulieu River.

Agreed, the historic dockyard is good, we went a few years back and seeing HMS Victory was a highlight.

Warrior is perhaps more interesting than HMS Victory A. Because of the way it was run, B Because it was the ultimate deterrent and C. Because we had the best Navy in the world and the best man management on the planet at the time on a machine without any mechanical aids. I learnt a lot from it.

I agree, Beaulieu for a day and do take a look round the old house (if it's open) Lord Montague died recently. And a half day in the dockyards, Victory, Warrior and of course the Mary Rose. If you've got time on your hands a wander round the Old Portsmouth area is interesting too.

Thanks for all the tips on Portsmouth. I spent a day at Beaulieu looking through the museum, the house, and the Abbey. Very beautiful surrounds hence the name I suppose Beau lieu - beautiful place). No Armstrong Siddeleys in the museum, but a few Sunbeams. They started up a 1914 Rolls Royce, which was great to see/hear.

I also spent a day at the historic dockyard, which was also really interesting.

Minormatt, I was working near the forts (great view over Portsmouth from up there), but didn't get the time to see through the forts. A slim chance perhaps if I finish my last day here tomorrow a little early. Otherwise, something for my next visit.
Regards,
Paul.
