Hi Guys
I have been given a Rochdale GT body to save it from being scrapped. Just a body.
As you will probably know, they were designed to be placed on a Ford 10hp chassis.
I am a stranger to the world of Ford. If someone with their finger on the pulse would take the time to advise me I would be grateful.
What is the likelihood of my obtaining a derelict Ford 10hp, preferably one with 16" wheels and an identity? I would want one that did not stand much chance of being rebuilt bodily, otherwise to cut up a restorable car would spoil the whole point of the exercise.
And if anyone could point me in the direction of one I would appreciate that. |

Evening,
The ropey remains of 103E Pops turn up on ebay from time to time, I've seen rolling chassis on there several times in the past. Hot-rodders tend to keep the bodies, and dispose of the chassis.
This one would do the trick, although is a bit pricey for what it is (and no mention of an id): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ford-pop-103e-hot-rod-rat-rod-/301761571805
Something suitable would turn up I'm sure, or via the FSOC magazine.
The upright E493A chassis is longer than that of the Pop, so probably wouldn't be suitable (I'm not sure which chassis the Rochdale was designed for?). From memory I don't think they come on 16" wheels as standard (although they're a direct swap anyway).
E83W pickups (not vans) have wide section 16" rims, which look good on specials, but they're hard to find. Many also seek out the rare 15" Ballamy wheels, which were an option "back in the day".
Good job on saving the bodyshell anyway, they're a good looking special body. I've had a few Ford-based specials over the years, but not a Rochdale. At least two OCC forum-ers had GTs for a while, but one at least was sold before being completed.
This reminds me that I must sometime expand the Ford Specials section of the main site.
There's a period photo of a GT here:
