Thanks for the picture ,I think they was one of the best looking lorries of the time. Looks a bit tight through the bridge with the AEC presumably one hopes the train does not turn up. Ken

Vehicular traffic was halted when a train went over the bridge.

Hi
That picture has triggered a question.

How many dual purpose bridges remain?

There is a new one in Preston on the docks, the one between Harlech and Porthmadoch has been rebuilt so that rail and road are now alongside each other, I am sure it used to be like the Connel bridge.

John,

That R/Front wing looks 'well skelpt' going by the ripples on it.

The first lorry is an early postwar ERF C.I., the C.I. Meaning compression ignition or diesel to you or I. Fitted with Gardner engines of the 'LW' type. The second lorry is a Guy, being a tractor unit it would be an 'Otter'. The cab design was shared with Thorneycroft.

Those BRS shots are from a lovely old film about a team of drivers hauling cement to a dam project somewhere in Scotland. Sorry I can't remember the title. Can anyone help?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm I've a feeling that I once had that on VHS somewhere, it may still be lurking in a box but could equally have been passed on.

This chunk is 2, chunk 1 shows the start of the cement haulers.

Found another link with it all in one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYFOjy_j6UM

I came across a story somewhere about an ambulance that wasn't going to wait for the train, this would have beeen in the latter years of the railway. The driver charged the gate at the end of the bridge and squeezed through at speed, causing minor damage to ambulance and train alike but carrying on regardless. I forget now if the bridge keeper managed to get the second gate opened in time or whether that one was wrecked as well Laughing
