Hi all,

Ebay gem for today is this fine looking ZB Magnette, one of my favourite post-war British saloons in seemingly very smart, good all-round, condition.

Email sent. I grew up with a ZA that Dad had. I have a project in mind!

Looks a nice tidy beastie.
Comparing it to my Varitone of the same year it's interesting to see the block of wood under the battery (same as mine).
Very nice paintwork. Potentially modified to negative earth? looks like there's no dynamo and possibly now with an alternator as well as an aerial for the nice push button radio in the dash.
Seems to be a modification on the rocker cover as well where the oil pipe leads to the oil bath air filter. The original hole appears to have been sealed and a new hole drilled. A bit odd but obviously a reason for doing this at some point.
At this price it looks on first glimpse as a steal. ZB and ZA prices have rocketed recently and some are going for in excess of £15K !
If you are going for this check the front box section and the rear arches going through to the rear doors as these are the main areas prone for the dreaded tin worm.
So long as warm idling pressure is showing at somewhere in the 45 to 50psi range and running pressure rises to 65+ you have a decent engine.
Tappet noise is normal and the breakdown of syncro in 2nd is predictable but this thing will carry on. The engine was made to last.
Great fun to drive and real head turners. People mainly can't believe they are looking at an MG!
