Can anyone help...Should there be a gasket on the side of the carburettor where the float chamber fits against the side of the carburettor. She runs great but when excellerate she just cuts out? It's a fordco carburettor. |

Hi Dave.
No gasket there but the one on top of the bowl must be good.
Is that a different carb fitted? It may have an accelerator pump not working, watch the nozzle while opening the throttle. Best check with motor not running.
If it is the original the jets to clean are in the bottom of the bowl, one of the holding bolts will have a square end to undo the jets. Using carb cleaner is getting to be necessary at least with fuel here.
Try pulling the choke out (try different settings) to see if that will cure the fault, just to confirm that a lean mixture is the problem.
No need to go hunting vacuum leaks or spark problems right now, come back to us and we will go from there.

Thanks for your help. Will let you know how we go. It is the original carburettor. |

Sounds familiar, with my '48 Anglia the same problem appeared and after a lot of fiddling the fuel tank outlet was rusted almost shut, there was simply not enough fuel feed to the carb float chamber for accelerating...........
Cleaned the outlet and the problem was gone.
Good luck,René |
