Here in Oz it seems fairly difficult to locate 6v bulbs in the wattage and package needed, but quite a lot easier in 12v versions. So I thought that since there is a set of well known formulae governing volts and amps and watts, it shouldnt be too hard to find a formula to use 12V bulbs in 6v systems.
After doodling a few cases it became deadly easy - using a 12V bulb in a 6V system, divide the 12V wattage by 4 - half the volts will produce half the current, watts = volts x amps, so 6V watts= 12V watts / 4.
Some small glass bulbs are hard to find in high 12V wattages, but larger styles are relatively easy.

I'm also in Oz and I don't have any trouble getting 6v globes.

I don't know what state you're in, but try contacting Airmaster in Bayswater, Western Australia. They stock dozens of different globes for 6v systems as well as many vintage car requisites. (All electrical components, including cables, both cotton and metal covered. Spark plugs, tyres, tubes, rustbands and Penrite oil.) The proprietor is an ex-president of the Veteran Car Club of WA. Their phone number is 08 9272 6411. (6 Rio Street, Bayswater, WA 6053)

Keith - thanks for this. Now that I look up Airmaster I can see why I didnt find him - nothing there but Aircon stuff. Vintage stuff must be a local secret. Next time I have a need I cant find anywhere else I may try him, but it would be more useful if he didnt hide his light under a bushel.

The maths may be right but the conclusions are incorrect. The resistance of the filament is different and it will not reach the required temperature to produce incandescent light. Hope you find the 6v bulbs you are looking for.
