I don't know if any of you go to Retromobile in Paris which was on a week ago, but the auction results are interesting/scary in that there are few really old cars and some surprisingly new. Vast number of Porsche's too.
Was a time when you'd have expected mostly prewar and nothing post sixty except supercars.

Disappointing if you want to buy a pre '60 car but looks like people are holding onto them. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

Depends how you look at it, but I'd say the auction houses are chasing the big ticket items and where possible ones that are shooting up in value as Porsches seem to be. Also cars that cost less to rebuild than the selling price are in demand. Hence R-R&B not really doing much.
At the same time were told that the classic car market is the biggest it has ever been and most can't afford and don't want more than the cars they couldn't afford or could but they bust it from their youth. These are still affordable and just as much fun for their owners.
What it means is that prices for more ordinary cars will stay manageable. |
