For Sale: 1934 Austin light 12/4 Ascot Saloon

The Light 12/4 was introduced in late 1932 to fill the gap between the 10hp range and the larger 12.8 and 16hp models. It was to prove highly successful, being economical, robust and well appointed in true Austin tradition. Available in saloon and open tourer versions, it was the Ascot saloon that was the most popular variant, being a spacious and comfortable family car.

‘Facelifted’ in 1934, the revamped Austin 12/4 range was distinguished by new more flowing wings, a sculpted radiator cowl and vents (in place of louvers) on its bonnet sides.

Underpinned by a sturdy ladder frame chassis equipped with semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and four wheel drum brakes. Powered by a torquey 1535cc four-cylinder side-valve engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, most 12/4s were capable of a reputed 65mph. A handsome six-light saloon design, the 'Ascot' De Luxe was priced at £204 when new.

Reported to have undergone a full restoration throughout the 1990’s this particular vehicle has been part of our wedding car fleet for the past 10 years. Meticulously maintained and benefiting from new half shafts, new carburettor and new piston rings. Also boasting a full stainless exhaust system.
