I need to rewind the resistance in the faulty sender unit as it is broken in several places. Wires.co.uk have enamelled constantan (copper/nickel). The diameter of the existing wire is 0.25mm for which constantan is quoted as 10 ohms/metre.
Can anyone tell me what the overall resistance should be for this sender so that I can get the correct material please? |

Unwind the old wire from the bobbin and measure the length of the wire.
( May have to tape the broken pieces to get a true length ).
Cut a 1 foot section of the old wire and measure the resistance. (1 foot # ohms x total length of wire= total high end resistance.
I've rewound '50-60's English Ford sender units with Kanthal #34 gauge ( .006 ) 21.1 ohms per foot which is much more durable than copper/nickel wire. Obviously, larger the diameter of wire the less resistance.
