Thanks Rick.
Just been out for a nice drive in the Heavy Twelve to take it's speedo to be repaired by Speedograph Richfield. It's a centrifugal jobby and no one else would touch it. I had a customer in earlier who saw my E04A Anglia and recognised it as being supplied new by Hooleys of Nottingham. He said his dad was chief salesman there after the war and probably sold my very car! |

Hi Pete,
A bit premature as i haven't collected it yet! I just acquired an Austin 12/4 Berkeley 1934. I work offshore and will be collecting it early March. When i get it home i'll post a few pics and no doubt be asking several questions!
I've only managed to find one other Berkeley on the www, which was mint.
Mine is original and unrestored which appeals to me. I'm guessing they are rare. this is my first foray into pre-war cars.
Also have a 1940 500cc Norton 16H rigid and girder, 1953 500cc Ariel red hunter and a couple of cars from the 60's and 70's, all British. Only mention because of your forum name!
I live in Ireland which has a limited interest in old cars, but there are a few.
Cheers

Welcome to the forum, look forward to reading more about your toys in due course. Hopefully Thumpersloper will also pop back and give us an update on his car.

Nice one Chris! You'll love it.
My Heavy 12 is my everyday user throughout the spring, summer and autumn.
Good, solid and reliable cars.

Indeed; it wasn't just coincidence that Austin Twelves survived as taxis and garage hacks for so many years.
Our house was the former village taxi depot, running a 1936 Armstrong Siddeley and a 1926 Austin Twelve until it closed in 1970!
Sadly long departed, this was my Twelve back in the 1970s:
_________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline
Recently departed: 1953 Lancia Appia, 1931 Austin Seven, 1967 Singer Chamois, 1914 Saxon, 1930 Morris Cowley, 1936 BSA Scout, 1958 Lancia Appia coupe, 1922 Star 11.9 ... the list goes on! |
