I saw this comparison of car prices when new verses today's inflation adjusted price.
Interestingly in adjusted ££££ terms £9-£10K is always around the cost that new cars start at, but the spec of a later car will be very different and probably always as been as technology and manufacturing efficiency improves.
Attractiveness and desire are of course subjective
What would sell today? New Lotus Cortina for £21K sir?
Dave

What an interesting post and list ukdave2002.
I can add one further car to your list. In June 1952 my late father bought a new 3 door Austin A30 in grey from a Colwyn Bay Garage called Meredith and Kirkham.
My mother remembers the occasion well because without a part exchange my father was able to negotiate a small discount and the A30 was his for £500 and 5s0d (shillings) and he had to pay the five shillings.(25p) _________________ Starting Handle Expert

My Triumph Gloria has a 1936 JC Reg Number .Which I think is Colwyn Bay. (North Wales)
I have wondered if it was sold by Meredith and Kirkham. Were they there in 1936.? |

Mike,
I rather doubt your Triumph came from M&K. They were Austin dealers I think originally. I remember going there for bits for my A70. My dad came from Llysfaen which is just up the hill from there.

Art is indeed correct, Meredith and Kirkham were Austin dealers but there was one Standard and later Triumph dealer in Colwyn Bay, certainly post war.
It was called Hollingdrake which closed in 1980 to make way way for the then new A55 Expressway.
But, Colwyn Bay was in the county of Denbighshire and would have been issued registration numbers from the county town of Ruthin. The county letters were UN and CA.
A customer could have requested his car be registered in Caernarvonshire with the CC and JC registration numbers.
Time for a bit of research on Carnarvonshire Standard and Triumph dealers.
Leave it with me for a while.
