Thanks for posting this, it made me chuckle the "with heater" bit, it's good to have a chuckle every now and then _________________ Paul

Nowadays the car is one's ipod!! WHat has the world come to?
Once was a time when two wipers was a luxury..and a heater...? Out of this world!
Yet, wood trim inside [dash, etc]....and a soft top , was the cheaper end of the range...... |

In 1957 a skilled man's weekly wage was £7.50, today it's well over £500, so all the original numbers need to be multiplied by 67 to give a realistic view.
In relation to the iPad, most smart phones have 100 times of the computing power of the Apollo space crafts, heavens know what the reverse valuation would be!!?
It was 1957 when Macmillan told the UK that they "had never had it so good".....was he right ?

Hi
I started driving in 59 and I think spark plugs were £i for a box of 4.
What do standard plugs cost these days? _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Hi
Just seen a Vauxhall Viva HC S/74 Limited Edition 1974 Original UK Price List on ebay showing a UK price of £1002.08 +vat (Vat was 10% and reduced to 8% in July 74)
What would be the equivalent in the range now? the Astra, the new Viva or the Corsa? _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

We were discussing caravans on another forum. I said that my Royale cost £12,700 in 1979.
Another member calculated that that is now over £60,000!
Anybody want to buy a caravan? |

I have the Parkers Guide for 1966 and some for the 1970's - the values are quite astoundingly low even though "I was there" and application of pro-rata increases does not work on the whole but especially on a model by model basis _________________ Rover P2

In about 1965 I found a very straight Mk2 Ford Consul on a dealers site. The car was dirty. No, it was absolutely filthy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned since new. Inside, however, it was just like new. It was a very low milage car and the back seats looked as though they had never been sat on! The interior even smelt new! The dealer had taken it in as a part exchange and just wanted it out of the way. My Dad could see the potential and offered him £80 - which was accepted!
My brother and I spent an entire weekend cleaning and polishing the Consul and by the time we had finished it looked like a new car and we were very proud of it. The colour scheme was white over green with green and white leather seats. It looked fabulous and Dad loved it. |
