I have cross sectional pictures of the post war 8, and 12 and the only difference I can see is the lighter flywheel on the 8. I think it's very likely that you could use the gearbox and bell housing from a 12 or 14.

Really because the one I sold I think was an early SS one.

It belongs to a friend but I think he wants the top cover. I'll ask him.

Well the top cover on the Jaguar 1½ litre is a squatter affair and the rear mounting has a "V" configuration instead of the flat mounting on your green box but I'm sure the basic body is the same.

I have a collage in my website comparing the gearbox in Standards with those in the SS Jaguars.

http://www.nostalgiatech.co.uk/new%20page%2012.htm

You will see that the larger SS Jaguars have the same flat rear mounting as your box. The 1½ litre top cover looks just the same as the remote one in my collage.

I spoke to my friend this evening asking him to think about a price with and without the top cover (that I don't know whether he wants to keep).

The box is located in East Lothian.

I hope you sold your gearbox before you bought your current project.

Here's what the SS2 gearbox looks like.

Thanks for all your help etc. I sold the box when I thought I was going to use a Stude lump. I was going to sell the engine but luckily I found the Stude would not fit before I did. Pity I didn't know before I sold the box.Of course if he wants to sell the I have limited funds😑 and could he move closer to Kent 😅.Where do you Find all this useful information I find details of standards and ss quite rare.

There's quite a lot of information here:
http://www.jag-lovers.org/brochures/ss34_manual.html

The Brooklands series of road tests has more general info for SS and Standards.

Thanks again. I had forgotten about the jag lovers site. Just to be clear the gearbox I sold was either an SS2 or 1 1/2 jag??
