Bought a year ago as a running project. Nothing major needed doing just a lot of tidying up which suits me fine.
That was until I drove another MGB and realised the "slop" in my gearstick was very excessive which accounts for the occasional missed gear.
So engine and gearbox out job and as soon as I opened up the gearbox could see the selectors are very badly worn.
These parts seem to be in short supply so may have to repair or buy a cheap box as spares.
I keep pics of the jobs I have done on the car on my blog (www.mymgb.info if you are interested) .
Am keeping an eye out on ebay for selectors unless anyone has a box (pref near Nottingham) they can part with.

Thanks
Its the selectors not the selector forks - they go on the other end of the shafts to the forks

This may go against the grain, but I can't imagine that recon gearboxes for MGB's are hard to come by, if you're having problems?
Of course that could be the reason for the lack of supply. I feel certain that numerous small parts for Triumphs are in short supply only because the specialists would rather hoard them and make more money selling you a larger recon assembly... |
