Hi all,

Nostalgia is ofted cited as a reason for a person's choice in older car, was that the case for you? Perhaps it's nostalgia for a particular car that you remember, or maybe just an era that you look back at with fondness?

Personally, yes I do find myself drawn at shows to cars I remember as an ankle-biter, but I'm not sure that nostalgia for a specific memory has led me to buy something in particular.

My fathers first car was a Morris 8 2 door saloon, my first car was a Morris 8 two seater which was great fun although I only kept for just over a year. when I retired I bought myself a Morris 8 two seater and I have as much fun if not more than I did with my first more than 50 years ago. So yes it was nostalgia that urged me to purchase this one.

\not quite on post but I am searching for a Triumph Tiger 100 the like of which I owned for some years way back then. Trouble is, prices seem to have rocketed!

My interest really is in prewar cars so at 42 years of age nostalgia hasn't driven me as such.
I would say that my Grandparents did influence me when i was a lad with their stories of when they were first on the road in the 30's.

yes i bought a 50's car because i like 50's music and i remember them driving around when i was young.
i supose we all do.
i now have the 2 vehicles i have always wanted and intend keeping them a long time!

Oddly enough, no nostalgia at all. When I bought my Herald I was on the dole/crap job/dole merry-go-round, and looking for something DIYable with low fixed costs (insurance, tax etc) that could be left parked most of the time but get me to an interview if there was a sniff of a job - or, more likely, if the jokecentre felt like wasting my time again. It did that job pretty well, and when a job did come along coped with commuting for long enough for me to find something more suitable.

As a school boy growing up in the 1950s I caught glimpses of SS Jaguars from time to time and just loved the shape of them at a time when new cars looked boring with the possible exception of Citroens. By the 1960s most of these old Jags had found their way into the scrapyards and I couldn't afford to run one anyway.

In the early 1990s I had totally forgotten about them until I came across Paul Skilleter's "Jaguar Saloon Cars" in a remainder bookshop and that definitely triggered a desire based on nostalgia.
