I've just acquired a set of 4 pistons and wet liners for an engine with 70.00 (2.75") bore. New old stock. One oil ring missing but otherwise ok. Been in store a bit so just a little surface rust. Anyone know what they belong to and anyone need them? |

Peter, you are a marvel, all I could find were motorcycles with 70mm pistons. These appear new. If they are Jag then they are +020 ish. I will research! |

Hi Paul,
If you could give me the length I might be able to narrow it further.

Pistons are approx 68 mm longat the longest point but the skirt is shorter below the pin (approx 60mm at the shortest point) Pistons have a comprssion height of approx40mm. Liners are 130mm total length with approx 40mm spiggot to locate in the crankcase. Liners have an 85mm diameter flange at the top with a flat on just one side. |

Hi Paul,
The Wellworthy book that I'm looking at has 3 7/64" i.e. 79 mm for the Standard 12hp piston length and compression height 1 35/64" i.e. 39 mm so maybe not that one.
All the cars have about the same length but the Aveling & Barford Motor Rollers have a length of 2 11/16" i.e. about 68 mm.
The models quoted are the BXBA and BG and BK
They have a flat head shape and compression height of 1 5/16" i.e 33 mm
The pin diameter is 5/8" i.e.15.875 mm
The BXBA have 3 rings of 3/32" thickness and 1 of 5/32" thickness.
the BG & BK have 2 rings 3/32" and 1 of 5/32"
The liners are 7 1/4" long and 2 7/8" outside diameter.
Your 130 mm long liners are very short. The only things with 70 mm bore and that sort of liner length that I can find are single cylinder motor bikes.
The Ariel Square 4 has too small a bore.

It's not impossible that these pistons and liners are, although they appear to belong together, for different engines and have simply been "thrown together" in storage... |

Back to this again! I am pretty certain that they belong together. Currently thoughts are turning to a Renault 1100 engine but who knows. When I get a chance I'll do more research. |
